Garbage Truck Alphabet Activity
Someone on PUBYAC mentioned they did an activity with this title. They used a box with a picture of a garbage truck on it, and then they had the children put a letter in the truck for the "alphabet soup" portion of the book. The preschool teachers I did this with were really impressed, and the kids loved it. My recommendation would be to hand out the letters right before the soup part, instead of at the beginning of the book. I ended up with some mangled letters that way.

Song:

Picking Up Trash
(mime picking things up while singing)

We're picking up trash and putting it in a basket.
Picking up trash and putting it in a basket.
Picking up trash and putting it in a basket.
Way down back in the backyard patch.

Roll Your Hands

Roll your hands so slowly
As slowly as can be
Roll your hands so slowly
And fold them just like me
Roll your hands so quickly
As quickly as can be
Roll your hands so quickly
And fold them just like me
Clap your hands so softly
As softly as can be
Clap your hands so softly
And fold them just like me
Clap your hands so loudly
As loudly as can be
Clap your hands so loudly
And fold them just like me

Put Your Finger on Your Shirt
(tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It")

Put your finger on your shirt, on your shirt.
Put your finger on your shirt, on your shirt.
Put your finger on your shirt,
put your finger on your shirt.
Put your finger on your shirt, on your shirt.

Put your finger on your pants, on your pants.
Put your finger on your pant, on your pants.
Put your finger on your pants,
put your finger on your pants.
Put your finger on your pants, on your pants.

Put your finger on your shoe, on your shoe.
Put your finger on your shoe, on your shoe.
Put your finger on your shoe,
put your finger on your shoe.
Put your finger on your shoe, on your shoe.

Grandma's Glasses

These are grandma’s glasses.
(Make circles around eyes.)
This is grandma’s hat.
(Cup hands and place on head.)
And this is the way she folds her hands and puts them in her lap.
(Fold hands and put them in your lap.)

(Say with a deep voice:)
These are grandpa’s glasses.
(Make circles around eyes.)
This is grandpa’s hat.
(Pretend to put on a hat.)
And this is the way he folds his arms.
(Cross arms and fold.)
Just like that!
